Vindex for Azure DevOps · How it works

Install once. Every work item scored automatically after that.

Vindex runs as a native extension inside Azure DevOps. It reads each work item the moment it’s created or updated and puts plain-language findings on the work item form: before refinement, before planning, before the sprint pays for the gap.

  1. Step 1

    Install the extension

Install Vindex from the Visual Studio Marketplace at the organization level. You'll need organization admin permissions. Most teams are done in a few minutes.

    See install requirements
  2. Step 2

    Connect and choose your scope

From the Vindex admin hub inside Azure DevOps, an admin clicks Connect Vindex (a one-time Microsoft Entra ID authorization) and picks which projects to score. Vindex wires up the Service Hooks for those projects automatically.

  3. Step 3

    Vindex watches for changes

Service Hooks fire the moment a work item is created or updated. Vindex reads the title, description, and acceptance criteria; nobody has to remember to run a check.

  4. Step 4

    Every work item gets scored

The scoring engine reads the work item the way a senior reviewer would and evaluates whether it's actually ready for development: clear scope, real acceptance criteria, sized for a sprint, free of hidden dependencies, testable, and clearly valuable.

  5. Step 5

Findings appear on the work item form

Scores and plain-language findings render in a Vindex panel on the work item form, where your team already works. The headline is always a finding anyone can act on, like "Acceptance criteria are missing or untestable." The per-dimension breakdown is one click deeper.

What Vindex never does in your Azure DevOps.

  • Vindex adds no custom fields and makes no changes to your work item process.
  • Vindex never writes scores onto your work items; results live in the extension's own data store inside Azure DevOps.
  • The extension's panel reads scores through the Azure DevOps SDK; your browser never calls Vindex.
  • Vindex does not train models on your customer data.
  • Public CSV demo uploads are deleted automatically after 24 hours.

Feel the scoring before you install anything.

Drop an Azure DevOps CSV or paste one story on the overview page: real scores in 30 seconds, no signup. Then install the extension and make it automatic.
